5 Things You Need to Know

You follow the Dave Ramsey baby step method to eliminate debt, but are you wondering what Dave Ramsey thinks of timeshares?

I had a heartbreaking conversation last week with a gal who I will name Julie (not her actual name) had purchased a timeshare. Julie had paid $35,000 over 5 years. She had told me that she was lower-income and that she had worked so hard as a single mother to make ends meet. Julie thought this would be an investment that she could pass on to her daughter someday. Now, she’s trying to get out of it as quickly as possible to not pass this nightmare onto her daughter. The $35,000 wasn’t the worst of it.

Here’s more of this horror story:

  1. Julie called to cancel and they got her to upgrade to make sure it wouldn’t be passed to her daughter. Well, they didn’t remove it from the contract.
  2. They now bulk charge the maintenance fee once a year a month before Christmas.
  3. There’s very little availability when she wants to book.
  4. When she tried to use the pool at a facility, they would not even let her go although they let other guests stay that have paid a fraction of the price.

How can someone who paid $35,000 over 5 years not get the benefit of using a pool that someone who paid $99 per night received?

I am livid. I am heartbroken.

As someone who specializes in helping people understand all of their options to get out of debt, I knew that bankruptcy was an option to get out of a timeshare, but I also knew that it is extreme. Also, the gal didn’t have much-unsecured credit card debt.

So, I wanted to research what Dave Ramsey has said about timeshares to see what he thought about how to get rid of a timeshare. So, I Googled, “sell timeshare”. To my surprise, I saw an ad for Dave Ramsey. His ad shows the following:

1) Dave Ramsey Timeshare Exit

If you have followed this blog,, you will know how closely I follow Dave Ramsey quite closely, I like to explore attributes that can help both Dave Ramsey Purists and Dave Ramsey Reformers. I believe Dave Ramsey has wisdom in some areas, but I think the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps are outdated, and I often question his rhetoric in how he presents information. It comes off sometimes as condescending.

So, I was more than intrigued about what Dave Ramsey could possibly be recommended to get out of your timeshare safely, legally, and forever with its no-risk guarantee.

Ultimately, I wanted to decide whether I could recommend this to a friend. So, as I consider my readers my friends, I would also like to explore this with you and provide 5 things you should know.

The fact that Dave Ramsey has an ad on sell timeshare makes me believe that he must have an affiliate relationship with the Timeshare Exit Program that he recommends.

So, I can just recommend this to Julie, and all her problems are solved? Not so far.

2) What is the Timeshare Exit Team?

According to BBB, the Timeshare Exit Team is a company that offers consultations to timeshare owners as they assess their timeshare exit opportunities.

This corroborates what Dave Ramsey stated about the Timeshare Exit Team that its a consumer protection firm helping timeshare owners dissolve unwanted timeshare contracts. The site states that they dissolve your contract forever.

3) Timeshare Exit Team Reviews

So, am I ready to send over the details to Julie? I only recommend people to things that I would do myself, so let’s go through the reviews.

Timeshare Exit Team has reviews. Let’s go through the reviews. If you know anything about me, I care about unbiased reviews only. There’s far too much biased in reviews. Check my ClearOne Advantage Review where I explain my methodology.

I find the reviews below less biased, so let’s look at Dave Ramsey’s recommended provider:

Timeshare Exit Program Yelp: 2.5 star based on 134 reviews

The Timeshare Exit Program Trust Pilot: 3.0 based on 1101 reviews

Timeshare Exit Program BBB: 4.24 based on 670 reviews.

At this point, I am not comfortable recommending this option to Julie.

4) What are alternatives to Dave Ramsey’s Timeshare Exit Team recommendation?

After searching for timeshare solutions. I got inundated with Facebook ads about getting rid of my timeshare. Perfect timing as I am researching this. Let’s go through the different ads I have gotten:

Timeshare Termination Team: I need to do more research this option, but I like that they stated they provide a money back guarantee if they don’t exit the program. I need to research this more as

Timeshare Defense Attorneys: I am not sure about the attorney option just yet. Julie had a bad experience with this option as she already said she tried an attorney solution where she put $5,000 down, and her daughter told her it was a mistake, so she got only $2,000 back. This attorney solution may be much better, but I need to research it more.

Timeshare Travis and Timeshare Tracy: These seem quite similar, but I haven’t had time yet to read the reports and the reviews for these websites.

5) What timeshare exit solution did I recommend to Julie?

I actually haven’t recommended anything to her yet, but suffice to say, I haven’t found anything that I am comfortable yet to recommend to her. I’ll update this section when I have more information.
